In Spring of 1996, the project was rekindled with a grander scope: to collect, professionally photograph, and archive Dr. Bergin's materials which span the scope of computing history. Photographer Dave Muehling and graduate fellow Jeana Scheirer joined the team to expand the web site. The main purpose of the project is to preserve the information in a format accessible by students and teachers who are either taking the History of Computing course at The American University or who are going to teach some aspect of the history of computing in a course.
Since it is often difficult to move many of these items, and some are fragile or one-of-a-kind devices, we hope our multimedia presentation of the materials will help students and teachers alike appreciate the long and in-depth history of computing machinery, without which, you would not be browsing these pages over the World Wide Web today.
